I was disappointed to read in the Cook Strait News (local newspaper) this week that at the Island Bay Plunket Rooms will be closing at the end of the month due to the rooms needing "significant development to be suitable for Plunket's work".
I know there are a number of parents who have had bad experiences with Plunket and couldn't care less if a room closes or not. However we aren't those people, we actually like our Plunket nurse and find she is the right fit for us.
This will be our second Plunket move since the Tiny Human was born. Up until the Tiny Human was 9 months old our Plunket visits took place at Brooklyn Plunket, sadly these Plunket rooms were moved (to Island Bay Plunket) due to increasing rent and the space not being big enough. The move to Island Bay worked out well for us in the end as we also moved house and it is now a nice stroll around the bay to get to appointments, although we don't have another check in until the Tiny Human is two years old.
Island Bay and Brooklyn Plunket will both be moved to Plunket's Rongotai Family Centre in Lyall Bay; if you don't drive this means it's two bus rides & a walk to get there (or about an hour to walk around the coast), a bit of a mission.
For an organisation that is meant to support families and young children they are quickly disappearing from our communities and making it harder for people to access.
