This week is going to be filled with adventure and excitement. On Tuesday my mum (grandma) arrives from Hamilton, on the cards is Plunket, a trip to Wellington Zoo, Kirkcaldie & Stains to see if they too have a skinny santa or if they have kept to tradition. There is also the task of FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY without breaking the bank (especially since there is no bank to break) and making the Tiny Human his costume for his party.
It's no surprise that I started sewing his costume last night, although some of you are probably gobsmacked that I've left it "so late".
I've sewn a few bags and soft toys in my time, but I'm never made any clothing, let alone a costume for a small person, and although it seems like a daunting task it is ticking along pretty smoothly (except when I almost sewed the neck & arm hole shut, haha), and I will be super proud of my achievement when the outfit is complete.
For the 1st Viking Beach Landing Party the Tiny Human will be wearing an Odin inspired outfit (well duh). Currently this outfit consists of a tunic and faux fur shoulder pads with "leather" around the back of the neck.
The tunic is made from calico, so I have added velco to one strap to make it easier to take on and off. I have also painted an image of Huginn & Muninn on the tunic using fabric paints. The shoulder pads have been sewn on to the tunic to make life easier and hopefully make it less annoying for the Tiny Human; nothing worse than eating cake and a rough shoulder pad gets in the way, am I right 80's?
The next step of the costume making is to sew the cloak. The Tiny Human is going to have a red & black cloak (black on the underside) with, HOPEFULLY, Huginn & Muninn on it. The cloak will also be sewn to the tunic.
Once this is done, I just need to make some shorts or pants and it will be on to the all important helmet and armor.
I am hoping to have the outfit completed by Wednesday, but that's if everything goes to plan and I don't get too sidetracked along the way.
