Gender reveal cakes are no longer that unusual, as more and more people choose to share their news this way. I don't know how I feel about having a special party for it, but as a part of a baby shower I think it could be quite cool (unless you are really hoping for one over the other & will be upset that you get the opposite). Type 'Gender Reveal Cake' into Google and you will be flooded with all types of pink and blue cake designs, with things like "He or She...which will it be?/open to see/can't wait to see". However the cake that give me visions of a chestburster splattering icing and sponge over expectant parents & well wishes reads... You would hope that you were having a human, although when I was pregnant I was open I was having a kitten, because who doesn't like cute little kittens.
What do you think about gender reveal cakes and would you ever do one or do you wish you did one?
On Thursday I headed over to Newtown to have a blood test done and rather than waste the trip from the south coast over, I decided to take the Tiny Human to Wellington Zoo for the first time since his birthday. It was a great afternoon for a zoo trip, especially since the weather has been less than desirable lately and a nice outing for the two of us after a month of hard work and late nights to complete a garment to enter into the World of Wearable Arts. If you haven't been to Wellington Zoo for a while, it may be time for a visit. The sheep have grown bigger, the meerkats have had babies (four of them) and four capybaras have recently moved in as well. While at the zoo I let the Tiny Human out of his pram and discovered that not only is he not a fan of having his hand held, but he is also big on exploring and not afraid to go off the beaten track. All of this meant that at times I was that mother fighting a struggling child into a pram. Sure I could have let him continue to run wild, but for his own safety I thought it would be best to restrain him through the Neighbours (Australian) section and was pretty sure the kangaroos and emu wouldn't appreciate his curious nature. The Tiny Human seemed to enjoy his zoo visit, his favourite animals were probably the otters, spider monkeys and lions (we went to the lion talk). Hard to tell these things when you're making up the translations as you go. The highlight of his whole zoo trip was the lizard slide. I lead him up the ramp a couple of times & helped him at the top, then he had it figured out for himself and off he went. Leaving the slide was a small mission and ended with me throwing him under one arm while he kicked & screamed in protest (he had forgotten about it by time we were at the penguin talk). What is your favourite animal and your little ones favourite animal at your local zoo?
I was put onto this song by a good friend and I thought that more parents needed to know about it.
"NO! Don't touch that" "NO! You can't have that" "LEAVE IT ALONE" "IT'S NOT FOR YOU" "STOP KICKING ME" "DON'T SLAP ME" And then there are tears. I am so sick of telling the Tiny Human not to do something and then being ignored. Sure you could say that maybe he doesn't understand, but I kid you not he will stop doing whatever it is, look me right in the eyes, then do it and laugh. It seems at the moment if he isn't being clingy due to teething (he spent most of Sunday attached to me), then I am telling him off for getting into/doing things he shouldn't or he's complaining for no good reason (get's off my lap himself, then cries because he's not on my lap). Today it's doing my head in. Last year I was sent a couple of Finish products to try out, one of those products was Finish Rinse Aid and I had no idea I needed it until I noticed the difference. For months I have been meaning to put the Rinse Aid in the dishwasher, but never got around to it. What I didn't realise was that the Bearded One had filled the dishwasher with Finish Rinse Aid and just hadn't told me. So if he hadn't told me, how did I find out? About a fortnight ago we had some friends over for a potluck dinner and as we all know having people over for dinner means lots of dishes to do, so I was glad we have a dishwasher to do all the cleaning up. After one of the dishwasher loads with glass serving dishes, I commented how shiny everything had come out and it was the best I had seen all of the dishes since the day we brought them (sad but true). I thought the shiny dishes were due to the latest dishwashing tablets we are using; until a load of dishes came out cloudy and the Bearded One told me he had put some Rinse Aid in the dishwasher. It really is great and makes such a huge difference to all the dishes look, they are so much cleaner and I wish we had been using it sooner.
