On Thursday I headed over to Newtown to have a blood test done and rather than waste the trip from the south coast over, I decided to take the Tiny Human to Wellington Zoo for the first time since his birthday.
It was a great afternoon for a zoo trip, especially since the weather has been less than desirable lately and a nice outing for the two of us after a month of hard work and late nights to complete a garment to enter into the World of Wearable Arts.
If you haven't been to Wellington Zoo for a while, it may be time for a visit. The sheep have grown bigger, the meerkats have had babies (four of them) and four capybaras have recently moved in as well.
While at the zoo I let the Tiny Human out of his pram and discovered that not only is he not a fan of having his hand held, but he is also big on exploring and not afraid to go off the beaten track.
All of this meant that at times I was that mother fighting a struggling child into a pram. Sure I could have let him continue to run wild, but for his own safety I thought it would be best to restrain him through the Neighbours (Australian) section and was pretty sure the kangaroos and emu wouldn't appreciate his curious nature.
The Tiny Human seemed to enjoy his zoo visit, his favourite animals were probably the otters, spider monkeys and lions (we went to the lion talk). Hard to tell these things when you're making up the translations as you go.
The highlight of his whole zoo trip was the lizard slide. I lead him up the ramp a couple of times & helped him at the top, then he had it figured out for himself and off he went. Leaving the slide was a small mission and ended with me throwing him under one arm while he kicked & screamed in protest (he had forgotten about it by time we were at the penguin talk).
What is your favourite animal and your little ones favourite animal at your local zoo?
