At the end of August the Tiny Human and I went to view a house that was up for lease as the place we were in was far too small for the three of us. Our previous abode was a granny flat, we could fit our bed (king size), two seater couch, tv cabinet a set of draws and the portacot; only a pathway through to the kitchen for space.
Driving around Wellington's coastline I have always made comments of how some day we will live by the water, and now the Tiny Human, Bearded One and I are in a two bedroom stand alone house on the South Coast of Wellington; on a good day it feels as if you can reach out and touch the South Island.
To compare, everything that we fit into the room at the old house we could fit into the main bedroom at the new house. It is nice to have space and not feel like we are sitting on top of each other, even though that meant carpet burn for the Tiny Human. It was also nice to empty our storage locker and now to rediscover the things that have been locked away for almost three years.
The best thing about moving is we are now in a house that gets sun, is warm and feels dry. When pulling furniture away from the wall on moving day it was horrible to see black mould right across the wall and mould in another corner. It was always cold as it hardly got sun and for such a small living area the power bills were ridiculously high.
The Bearded One & I have moved a number of times over the years and it's pretty straight forward; we both help with the moving. This time around it was quite a bit different. I helped where I could but I spent a lot of the move looking after the Tiny Human (who couldn't quite figure out what was going on).
We were gifted a baby backpack by a family member and although we haven't used it on an outing yet, it was so helpful during the move and we are finding that it is great for when the Tiny Human is having one of those "I don't want to leave you" days.
I don't really have an tips for moving house with a baby, but if you do find yourself in this situation don't expect to do it all in one day, take your time and say yes to offers of help.
