Our place is tiny and there isn't room for a change table and although the portacot has a change table attachment, we prefer to do the nappy changes on a changing mat. We normally use puppy pads from Uncle Bill's, they are cheap, adsorbent, a good size and they come in a pack of about 20.
Recently we went on our first family holiday to Nelson, traveling with only carry on luggage, so we only had one puppy pad on us. Now, if you are a parent or if you have at least looked after a baby, you will know that sometimes accidents happen while doing a nappy change. So it was inevitable that we would need to replace the puppy pad while we were away.
The choice of changing mats at the super market was slim, I think there were only two or three brands to choose between and we made our choice on the fact that they were on special.
The Huggies Disposable Mats are really nice and that's no surprise, Huggies produces good quality products. The mats are a decent size, you could probably change two babies side by side on them; which makes them perfect for covering public change tables.
The mat backing is a little padded making it nice & soft for the wee one to lay on, especially when using those hard plastic change tables found in most places. Of course the tiny human needed to test the absorbency of the mat and I'm glad that the mat did it's job, since I wasn't keen on tell our friends we stayed with that he had pee'd on the bed.
If there is a problem with the Huggies disposable mats, it's that they don't come in bigger packs, but I will definitely be getting these again to have on hand in the tiny humans nappy bag.
