Hard to believe that a year ago the Bearded One & I found out that we were going to be having a little boy. We were both hoping for a girl, had plenty of names to choose from and there was a definite front runner in those names.
I will admit that when the radiologist told us that the Spawn was a boy I was a little disappointed, I thought I wanted a girl, but I'm glad we got a boy.
I quickly learnt that the downside of having a boy is that you have way less choice when it comes to clothes. Walk into any store that sells both male & female clothes and have a good look, you may notice that the female section is HUGE and males, well if you blink you will miss it.
If the lack of clothing choice wasn't enough, boys are also limited to blue, green, brown, grey, black and white clothing, sometimes you will have the odd yellow or red item...woohoo! However, if you're a girl you get the whole rainbow and this isn't something you will think about unless you have a son. The lack of gender neutral clothing (and lack of non-cartoony/kidy printed clothing) for kids is kind of what got me into painting custom onesies. Why do girls get cool animals on clothing and boys get stuck with a truck, tractor or boat?
The upside of having a boy (and getting back to the point) is the bond that a mother has with her son...her little man
The Bearded One & I were of the thought that if we had a girl, that would be it; one and done. If that had happened and even though I wouldn't know any different, I would have missed out. I don't have any other kids to compare this to, so if I had a daughter I could still be sitting here writing exactly the same post about how I have this amazing bond with them.
I think the one difference about being the mother of a boy is that you want to make sure you don't raise him to be like one of those douchbags that you run into during a night on the town.
